You don’t need to provide us with your email to use your subscription, though you can opt to do so for ease of activation across devices. If you choose to link an email address, DuckDuckGo only uses it for that purpose.
How to link an email address to your subscription
On the device that you used to initially subscribe, follow these steps:
- Go under the 3-line menu > Settings > Subscription Settings
- Select the option to “Add Email”
- Submit your email address in the field provided
- Keep the browser open, and switch to your email inbox, where you’ll receive a message from DuckDuckGo containing your one-time passphrase (OTP)
- Copy the OTP exactly
- Return to the browser and paste the OTP in the verification field
Once your email address is successfully linked on your initial device, you will be able to add that same email address to additional devices to activate your subscription on those.
What if I don’t want to link my email address?
You can activate your subscription in the following ways to avoid sharing your email address with DuckDuckGo.
If you subscribed via our website or in the DuckDuckGo browser downloaded from our website, you can activate your subscription on your other devices following these instructions and authenticate using the email address you used to subscribe through our payment processor, Stripe.
If you downloaded our browser from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you can activate your subscription through your app store account for Apple and Google devices, respectively.
If I choose to link an email, do I need to use the same email to activate my subscription on multiple devices?
Yes. Currently, only one email per subscription is supported. You can change this email address, but you can’t link two emails to the same subscription.

Please contact support via our subscriber support form. We use Zendesk, a third-party customer support platform, to store and facilitate our responses to support requests. DuckDuckGo representatives, and in some cases, representatives from our customer support vendor will review and address your support requests. These representatives may be located outside your jurisdiction, as described in the Privacy Policy.
